Upcoming Contests In this board you can find the upcoming contests for the season. You can enter your stories in these contests months in advance if you want to.
It finally happened. With @Shocker 's winning story Fugitives of the most recent Gang Rape Galore contest we have our first Popular Story ! What is a Popular Story? That's a story that breached a certain popularity threshold, currently a rating of 30! With @Shocker being our first author to accomplish that feat, he is the first and currently sole member of the Accomplished Writers group! Congratulations, Shocker! I hope he won't stay the only...
Season pass is a series of contests where, with exception of the flash fiction tournament, everyone is given the themes and contest rules ahead of time. This allows authors to prepare for stories well in advance. Top 5 participants of each contest receive a season pass score, which will be updated from month to month. And to account for the possibility of someone not being able to...

I'd like to start an author's thread to comment about comments, not sure if this is the correct forum spot, but I'd rather have a consistent topic for this rather than the one/two month check-in posts.
As Claire states, commenting should be the lifeblood of this site, and of course the challenge is eliciting more comments.
Since this is an academic site, to study this further, requires a dive into the types of commenters (in my personal...
This article will be a little primer to help those unfamiliar with reading screenplays. I'm hoping this will help anyone who may be put off from the different format, and hopefully will inspire others to write their own. Keep in mind, I'm still figuring out the formatting for this site, and may adjust things over time.
A screenplay (or play or script) is typically made up of scenes. Scenes are made of shots. Scenes make up Themes and Acts....
So we had this topic on Ravishu before it went down, and I really liked it. Let's talk a bit more about it here, too. First, maybe a question to our authors. I think the vast majority of stories are told from a third person limited perspective - that is, told in the third person through the eyes of an individual character. When you write a story, how much conscious thought do you put into the choice of the narrator style?
Since that Story Research thread is limited to only the real world, I thought I would create one that allows questions about fantasy and science fiction.
As @Lucius said in the other thread, please try to do some research yourself first, and try to be more specific in your questions rather than generic, for details read the other thread first :)
Oh and no real world things in this thread, keep those to the original thread :) Only Fantasy and...
I thought of a fun game we might play. :) @Blue asked me a while ago why I considered my story An Unfortunate Misstep my weakest story by far. And I decided to tear that story apart like I never would criticize anybody else's story. I would like to challenge you to do the same! Tell us which of your stories on the forum you consider to be the weakest and tear it down! I'll make the start by quoting what I said about An Unfortunate Misstep....
so after the current Ravished in a Flash Tournament is over, I would like it if somebody else would take over organizing the next contest. If the organizer needs some help with pinning contestants' stories, creating announcement messages, creating rewards for the winner, then I'll help with that of course. But when it comes to setting deadlines, choosing themes, deciding rules etc. I would like it if somebody else could manage...
I've written a metric buttload of stories over the last 5 or so years. I've done several series and a bunch of one-offs. I added it up a few months ago, and I'm well over a million words written in that time. But my problem is I don't know what I want to begin posting first. So I'm asking for some suggestions and maybe a little help. Below are the stories and series I want to post, along with any delays.
