NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month. Every year for the last quarter century, writers would challenge themselves to write a novel in 30 days or less. Starting November 1, writers would try to write a novel of at least 50,000 words by the end of the month. This is the writing equivalent of a marathon.

Rube Goldberg was an author widely known for comic strips and animated films that had complicated gadgets performing simple tasks in indirect, convoluted ways. The writing contest for the month of October, should you choose to accept the challenge, is to write a story with a Rube Goldberg theme.
