Rules Explained

On this page we want to talk about some of the rules in greater detail and give you an idea how they are to be interpreted.

Forbidden Content

Necrophilia: This essentially means that sex scenes with lifeless corpses are forbidden. Sex with conscious and intelligent but undead fantasy creatures like vampires are allowed.

Extreme violence, i.e. extreme torture, gore, splatter, snuff: This is not a ban of violence or character deaths in general. You want to write a James Bond fanfiction story and Bond shoots some henchmen on his way to save Bond girl? No problem there. You want to include a scene where somebody dies from a heart attack during sex? That is fine with us. People getting slowly tortured to death for the sexual gratification of another, with or without consent, is not allowed. As a rule of thumb: If the degree of violence you have in mind could be shown in any generic action movie you are likely fine. If the scene would belong in splatter movie, not so much.

Sexual acts involving underage(<18) characters: First, this is not a ban of underage characters in stories in general. Of course you can write a story that includes underage characters for as long as they are not involved in sex scenes. You are not allowed to publish stories that describe sexual acts that involve underage characters in any way. That includes passive participation like watching other people have sex. We also don't want you to look for loopholes in this rule. In general, we will err on the side of caution when removing stories with underage content. Dont be ambiguous in your portrayal of characters. Don't describe scenarios where characters are technically 18 or older but are meant to be read as younger. Don't have adult characters describe sexual acts they engaged in when they were underage. Here are a few examples how we will deal with attempts to bend or circumvent this rule:
  • The characters are 1000 years old, but because they are part of a fantasy race that ages slower they look like they are only 15. This will be removed.
  • The character isn't human at all. It's a robot that just happens to look like a little boy. This will be removed.
  • The character is 18 but because of brain damage they still act like a little child. This will be removed.
  • The character is 18 but because they took puberty blockers their body is underdeveloped. This will be removed.
  • The character claims they are 18 but it is implied by the story that they are lying. This will be removed.
  • The dialogue "Wait, don't tell me you're a virgin?!" - "No you idiot, I lost my virginity when I was 16!" is ok. If you continue the dialogue with "No you idiot, I lost my virginity when I was 16! My girlfriend back then used to do this in bed, she... (it follows a detailed description of what they did when they were underage)" the story will be removed.
To make a long story short: Please accept this rule, don't try to find a clever way around it. If you want to publish stories with underage characters, then you are simply in the wrong place.

Formal criteria

The opening post to a story must include the beginning of the story: The Popular Stories board shows the first post of a thread to guests. This is meant as a teaser for guests showing them what stories they would get access to if they registered. This only works if the first posts actually contains the beginning of the story. That is why this rule exists.

Every post of a story must contain at least 1000 words of story content. Flash fiction - i.e. stories between 250 and 1000 words - is the only exception to this rule. Flash fiction must be completed within the opening post and may not be continued in later posts: The spots at the top of a forum get the most attention from readers. This rule is meant to provide a level playing field for authors in the competition for reader attention. Updates to a story that are only a few sentences long should not take away the coveted top spots from other authors. If you are typing your story directly into the editor and have trouble reaching the required word count in one go, use the draft feature of the forum. Simply click on "Save draft" next to the "Preview" button. You can then later continue writing this post. If you have no text editor with a built in word counting feature, a simple Google search for "word count" will show you plenty of websites that will do that for you.

Any multi-part story published over several posts must include an index with links to the individual parts in the opening post. The index must be kept up to date as new parts are added to the story: The longer a thread becomes, the more difficult it can be for readers to find a chapter they would like to read, especially if discussions between authors and readers seperate chapters from one another. An index with links to the individual chapters will make navigating your story much easier for readers.

Allowed Languages

We are not against allowing authors to publish stories in other languages than English and German. If there is a sufficient demand for allowing another language and we have the ability to moderate it on our team, we are open to adding other languages as well.
