mChat is an extension that adds an integrated chat to the base phpBB forum software. So no seperate account is needed to use the chat. Besides the public rooms that all users can participate in, all users can create private rooms that they can invite other users into. We hope that the chat will especially be helpful for users looking for role play partners.

Currently, the number of private rooms per user is limited to 5. Messages in public rooms older than a week will be automatically deleted while private conversations will be saved indefinitely until a private room is closed.

By default, the chat is displayed at the bottom of the Campus (index) page and on the mChat page. But you can adjust those settings in your User Control Panel. The mChat settings have their own tab in the UCP. So if you prefer to see the chat at the top of the Campus page or not at all, you can adjust that among many other settings.

Sadly, the chat has the potential to generate a lot of traffic. I can not quantify how much traffic it will generate, but the risk that it might be too much exists. In that case, we might have to deactivate the chat. I hope that it doesn't come to that, but I want to be upfront about this so that nobody is too disappointed if it should come to that.
