In the Flash Fiction tournament authors will write a piece of flash fiction (250 to 1000 words) for each of their match-ups. Each match-up will have a different theme. The winner of a match-up advances to the next round until the final match-up determines the winner of the contest.
Ravished in a Flash Rules
- Language: English*
- Length: 250 to 1000 words
- Voting: The winner of each match-up will be determined by the reputation gained during the voting period. Voting for your own story is forbidden since it is impossible to rate your own posts under normal circumstances.
- Schedule: Each Round begins on Thursday 00:00 CEST. Exception: First round started Wednesday April 23.
- 4 days of writing until Monday 00:00 CEST
- 3 days of voting until Thursday 00:00 CEST (start of the next round)
- Anonymity: All stories will be published under randomly assigned pen names until the end of the tournament.
- Every contestant can suggest a pen name upon signing up for the tournament. The name they suggest will be assigned to some other contestant at random.
- In case a contestant does not suggest a pen name for their competitors, I will make up one myself.
- During the tournament, reputation gained by entries will be added to an anonymous account. Once the tournament is over, that reputation will be transferred to the real account.
- Formalities:
- Each entry has to designate the match-up its competing in in its title in the following form: Ravished in a Flash QF-1 (for example in case of the first quarter final match). This can be removed once the contest is over.
- Each entry has to contain a link before the beginning of the story that links back to the contest topic, i.e. this one.
- Each entry has to contain a link before the beginning of the story that links to the story it is competing against.
- Rewards:
- Special title for the winner of the contest (except for mods and admins)
- Each story that has won their match will be pinned to the top of the board for a week after the contest has ended
- Each won duel will get the winner 5 reputation points. Winning the entire contest will vield another 10 reputation points.
Themes
Assuming a tournament with 8 participants, the themes for the individual match-ups will be the following:
Quarter-Final:
- QF-1: Brotherhood
- QF-2: One more time
- QF-3: Good guys finish last
- QF-4: Infinity
- SF-1: That day dad went to get milk
- SF-2: Innocence gained
- Final: Cherry blossom
I myself plan to participate in case having one more person in the tournament will be of help, like having 7 contestants and adding an 8th one would fill up the ranks to get us to the 8 needed for a proper quarter final. But I will only do that if nobody objects to having me as part of this. As the organizer who has to anonymize the contestants, I would know who I compete against for example, so there would be some asymmetry here that I know is difficult.
If you want to participate, please post here and suggest a pen name for the other contestants.
