That’s an interesting scenario. Personally, though, it doesn’t really work for me — I just can’t see anything erotic in dental treatments. But that’s really just a matter of taste. The mix of pleasure and pain, on the other hand, is definitely intense.

What bothered me more is that everything happens far too quickly. I usually don’t enjoy short stories for exactly that reason — again, just my personal preference. Still, the relationship between the dentist and his assistant sounded very intriguing, and I would have loved to see that explored in more depth.

And then there’s Carrie. What’s going on in her head? What does she feel? Why doesn’t she just get up and run away? For me, the story would be much stronger if you gave us more insight into her perspective.

The ending, though, I thought was really well done. I just wish I understood how he managed to get her to be so obedient — that part left me curious.

It's definitely the case that very short form stories can't "go deep" - unlike Maya's tongue. My stories are usually quite implausible, and I guess Carrie submits to the initial torture because of her natural tendency to defer to authority figures. She's not bright enough to recognize the irregularities. Of course, I'm slightly presuming on the reader indulging this unrealistic exaggeration, on the basis that a very short story doesn't merit close examination for plausibility.

But you've got me wondering whether an extended version of this scenario could be interesting...
