Tag Guidelines

Post by Claire »

Authors can add tags from a predefined list to their stories to give readers an idea of what to expect. If you're interested in the technical details or limitations of the extension that powers the tagging system, please visit:

Topic Tags in the Features Forum

The first post here explains the rules for using tags. The second post provides a brief explanation of each tag, though most should be self-explanatory.

Mandatory Tags

Each story must include exactly one tag from each of the four mandatory categories:
  • Language: English, German
  • Completion Status: Finished, Unfinished
  • Length: Flash, Short, Medium, Long
  • Consent Type: Consensual, Nonconsensual

Optional Tags

You may add up to 6 optional tags to your story:
  • You may combine optional tags however you like.
  • You do not have to use all 6. You may use none at all if you don't want to. It's perfectly fine to leave out even perfectly fitting tags for the simple reason that you want to surprise your readers.
  • Only you, the author, decide which optional tags to apply.

Moderation
  • Moderators will only enforce:
    • Correct use of mandatory tags
    • The 6-tag limit for optional tags
  • If a story includes more than 6 optional tags, moderators will remove excess tags at their own discretion, possibly at random, until the limit is met.
  • Optional tags are not moderated for accuracy. If you believe a tag was misapplied, feel free to let the author know - politely.
  • If you agree with another user’s observation about a misapplied tag, simply give their post a positive rating. This helps signal that the concern is shared by multiple readers.

Tag Order

The order in which you apply the tags to your story does not matter. The forum will sort them automatically in the order that they are listed in the post below.

Re: How to tag your story

Post by Claire »

How to Apply a Tag

It is entirely up to you how you apply the optional tags. We will not engage in discussions about whether a tag was chosen "correctly" or not.

That said, we recommend applying a tag only when it represents an important aspect of your story. For example:
  • If your lead character is a pregnant woman, the Pregnancy tag is a great fit.
  • If chapter 8 of an 18-chapter story includes a brief orgy involving a pregnant woman who otherwise plays no role, your readers may feel misled by the Pregnancy tag.
A well applied tag communicates:
“This subject matter features prominently in my story.”
Not just:
“This happens somewhere in my story.”

It makes a lot of sense to tag The Lord of the Rings as Fantasy, but you wouldn't recommend it to someone who is in the mood for a Romance - even though the story includes romantic moments.

The List of Tags

Mandatory Tags

Language: Eng, Ger
  • Eng: For stories in English
  • Ger: For stories in German
  • English and German are the two languages we currently allow to publish stories in. That might change in the future and is largely dependent on our ability to moderate a language.

Completion status: Finished, Unfinished
  • Finished: For finished stories
  • Unfinished: For unfinished stories
  • Communicate to your readers whether your story is finished or not. Once your story is finished, please remember to update the tag from Unfinished to Finished.

Length: Flash, Short, Medium, Long
  • Flash: Between 250 and 1,000 words, takes between 1 and 4 minutes to read for an average reader.
  • Short: Between 1,000 and 5,000 words, takes between 4 and 20 minutes to read for an average reader.
  • Medium: Between 5,000 and 15,000 words, takes between 20 and 60 minutes to read for an average reader.
  • Long: 15,000 words or more, takes an average reader an hour or more to read.
  • The Length-tag always applies to the length of your finished story. If your story is unfinished, you will have to guess how long it may end up being. If you end up under- or overestimating the length of your story this is not a problem. But please update the Length-tag once you can foresee the length of your story better. For example, you might initially believe your story to be of medium length by the end of its final chapter, but upon reaching the penultimate chapter you have already breached the Long story word count. That is when you should at the latest update the tag from Medium to Long.
  • Most people read with reading speeds between 200 and 300 words per minute, the average being 238. The estimates for how long it takes to read a story are calculated assuming 250 words per minute.

Consent Type: NonCon, Con
  • NonCon: For stories which include at least one nonconsensual sex scene. The story may involve consensual scenes as well, but the moment it includes one nonconsensual scene it has to be classified as NonCon.
  • Con: For stories which only include consensual sex scenes.
  • The Consent Type tag is different from the optional content tags in the sense that the two options are by definition mutually exclusive. Its purpose is not only to be a description of the content of your story, but it also serves as a content warning.

Optional Tags

Genre: Comedy, Drama, Dystopia, FanFiction, Fantasy, History, Horror, Romance, SciFi, War
  • Comedy: Light-hearted or humorous tone.
  • Drama: Emotionally intense or character-focused.
  • Dystopia: Set in a bleak, oppressive, or post-apocalyptic world.
  • FanFiction: Set in the universe of an existing work.
  • Fantasy: Involves magic, mythical creatures, or fantastical worlds.
  • History: Set in a past time period; may include historical figures or events.
  • Horror: Designed to frighten, disturb, or unsettle.
  • Romance: Focused on emotional and/or romantic relationships.
  • SciFi: Involves futuristic tech, space, or science-based elements.
  • War: Set in a military conflict or war-like scenario.
Group Dynamics: Solo, Gang, Orgy
  • Solo: One on One.
  • Gang: Many on One.
  • Orgy: Many on Many.
  • Many means at least two.
  • The tags are deliberately chosen to be applicable to both Con and NonCon stories. In particular, the Gang tag can refer to consensual GangBang stories as well als nonconsensual GangRape.
  • These are broad categories, and as with any numerical cutoff, there will be edge cases. For example, a foursome could technically be labeled as an Orgy - but depending on the dynamic, that might not match the typical reader expectation. Use your judgment. We encourage you to apply these tags in a way that reflects the feel and focus of your story, not just the numbers. If a tag might give readers the wrong impression, it's better to leave it out.
  • If your story for example features both Solo and Gang scenes prominently, feel free to apply both - or neither.
  • If you want to be more precise, feel free to use the classic MMMMM/FF-style tag at the beginning of a chapter to indicate, for example, a scene with five men and two women. Please use only capital letters, as lowercase m and f are often associated with underage characters, which are not allowed here.
Narration / Point of View: 1P-Narrator, 2P-Narrator, MultiPOV
  • 1P-Narrator: First-person ("I") perspective.
  • 2P-Narrator: Second-person ("you") perspective.
  • MultiPOV: The story shifts between different characters’ points of view. Not to be confused with a shift in narrator type (e.g. from 3P-Narrator to 1P-Narrator). A Song of Ice and Fire would be an example of a story with MultiPOV that uses 3P-Narrator for the entire story.
  • There is no 3P-Narrator tag as this is assumed to be the default.
Themes: Abduction, Blackmail, Cheating, Couple, Cuckold, Drugs, Exhibitionism, FemaleRapist, HomeInvasion, Humiliation, Incest, Interracial, Medical, Military, MindControl, Monster, Police, Pregnancy, Prostitution, Public, Reluctant, Sleep, Voyeurism
  • Abduction: Involves kidnapping or forced removal.
  • Blackmail: One character coerces another using threats or secrets.
  • Cheating: One partner is unfaithful.
  • Couple: Focuses on an ongoing romantic or sexual relationship.
  • Cuckold: A character is sexually excluded while their partner has sex with someone else. This may be consensual or non-consensual, and may involve humiliation, arousal, emotional pain—or a mix of all three.
  • Drugs: Involves drug use or intoxication.
  • Exhibitionism: Characters expose themselves or perform publicly.
  • FemaleRapist: A female character initiates non-consensual acts.
  • HomeInvasion: Involves an intruder entering a private home.
  • Humiliation: A character is degraded or embarrassed.
  • Incest: Involves sexual activity between family members.
  • Interracial: Sexual interaction between characters of different races.
  • Medical: Involves medical procedures or doctor/patient dynamics.
  • Military: Characters are soldiers or set in a military environment.
  • MindControl: One character overrides another’s free will through supernatural, technological, or hypnotic means. The controlled character loses agency, acting against their normal judgment or without conscious awareness.
  • Monster: Involves non-human creatures (e.g., tentacles, aliens, demons).
  • Police: Law enforcement or interrogation settings.
  • Pregnancy: Features pregnant characters.
  • Prostitution: Involves sex work or transactional sex.
  • Public: Sexual acts are visible or broadcast to others, either in-person or digitally. This includes being watched in public, exposing oneself deliberately, or livestreaming. The key element is being observed or potentially observed, not just the physical location.
  • Reluctance: A character is hesitant but ultimately participates.
  • Sleep: One character is asleep or unconscious.
  • Voyeurism: Characters watch others engaging in sexual acts.
Setting: Club, Hospital, Office, Prison, University
  • Club: Set in a club or nightlife environment.
  • Hospital: Takes place in a medical or clinical setting.
  • Office: Set in a workplace or corporate environment.
  • Prison: Involves incarceration or a prison setting.
  • University: Set in a college or academic environment.
Sexual Orientation / Identity: Gay, Lesbian, Trans
  • Gay: Focused on male-male attraction.
  • Lesbian: Focused on female-female attraction.
  • Trans: Involves transgender characters.
  • The application of a LGBT tag does not imply the exclusion of heterosexual or other LGBT elements. A story may strongly feature a Gay couple with Lesbian friends that play a minor role in the story. It is then perfectly fine to tag the story as Gay but not Lesbian.
BDSM: BDSM, Punishment, Petplay, Bondage
  • BDSM: Includes bondage, dominance/submission, or sadomasochism.
  • Bondage: Characters are restrained (e.g., ropes, cuffs).
  • Petplay: Roleplay involving animal behavior or identity (e.g., puppy/kitten play).
  • Punishment: Involves disciplinary action, often with a dominant/submissive dynamic.
Bodily Functions: Pee, Scat
  • Pee: Involves urination (watersports).
  • Scat: Involves feces.
