Contest Season Update

Post by Claire »

The first contest of the current contest season is over. The Ravished in a Flash tournament ended after 4 exciting rounds with our @RapeU as the winner! But let's look at how he got there because it was not an easy path to victory at all.

Tournament Recap

The first round of the tournament was a play in phase. Our 13 contestants

@Shocker, @Lucius, @RapeU, @SoftGameHunter, @LtBroccoli, @AdmiralPiet, @Blue, @VictimEyes, @rdodger, @Vile8r, @Writers_Bloque, @DayDreamNights, @Verbal13

were competing for the 8 spots in the quarterfinal by writing stories for the Cherry Picking theme. The 8 highest rated stories would advance to the next round while 5 contestants would drop out. The later finalist @Lucius took an early lead with his ancient roman period piece In the Cherry Orchard. But it was @LtBroccoli's Looping Through Cherry and Cherries that took first place in this round and holds the honor of being the highest rated story of the tournament. Our eventual winner @RapeU came in third place with his story Door 69 that spured the reader's imagination with a curious setting that demands additional chapters to be written at some point to explain what exactly was going on. The biggest upset of the round was the early elimination of fan favourite @Vile8r, the author most might have expected to win it all!

In the quarterfinal with the All By Myself theme things got dicey for @RapeU. His story Tormented was tied with @SoftGameHunter's with a 14-14 match score. According to the tiebreaker rules, this would have been the end for @RapeU. But as luck would have it, @DayDreamNights didn't manage to finish his story for the quarterfinal. Therefore, a lucky looser rule chose the highest rated of the three losers to take @DayDreamNights place in the fourth quarterfinal match. This happened to be @RapeU and he managed to beat @AdmiralPiet with a 14-12 score.

In the semi-final, @RapeU was matched against @LtBroccoli who had written the highest rated story in the first round and was tied with 14 points for first place in the quarterfinal as well. The theme for this round was The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side and @RapeU managed to win this round with a 13 to 11 score with his story My Grass is Green against @LtBroccoli's Borrowing the Neighbor's Tools. The other semi-final saw @Lucius's Midnight in Moscow prevail with a 14-11 victory.

The final for the theme There Can Be Only One was crazy. @RapeU vs. @Lucius, The Pyramid of Atum Ra vs. The Mondina. @Lucius took an early lead that looked decisive. But by the final day of the voting priod, @RapeU had caught up to him. Mere hours before voting ended, the stories were tied with a 17-17 score! Then @RapeU took the lead with a 19-18 score and ended up defending it with the final 20-19 result!

Congratulations @RapeU! This was not an easy path to victory but you managed to do it! This makes you our first leader in the current contest season!

To all our contestants: It's only natural that you didn't rate your opponents' stories during the matches. But now would be a great time to return to some stories you haven't rated yet and show your opponents the respect of rating their entries. You can find all entries listed here:

Ravished in a Flash

And to everybody else: Check out @RapeU's entries, they are currently all pinned at the top of the Public Stories board.
