Deactivate post review feature? Need some feedback

Post by Claire »

I need some feedback from you guys regarding a feature of the phpBB software we're using. It's called "post review" and it is currently enabled on all boards. Here is what it does:

Image

So basically, if you reply to a topic but while you were typing your reply somebody else commented, your post does not get published immediately. The idea is that you can then adjust your post to what the new comment added to the topic. The issue in my view is: This feature tends to eat posts because it doesn't communicate itself very well when it actually kicks in. From my experience it looks like this: There is no pop-up window that informs you about the new post. Your reply simply does not get published, you stay in the editor window but the window is simply scrolled to the top. I myself had instances where I thought I had posted, then clicked on campus only to later find out that the "post review" had prevented my post from getting published. And because I had already left the editor window, my reply was just gone.

Has this happened to you, too? Do you like this post review feature? Or should I turn it off?

I suppose I'm used to it, and I like it -- sometimes the interposed post makes my own superfluous.

Yeah I do not like this extension it has eaten posts for me when tired, and then the post is lost for hours and I will not remember what I was going to say or notice the loss and thus when/if I notice it is goind to be hard to create the post again and I may just give up.

Maybe if when it triggers it first saves a draft it would be less bad.

I don't see the necessity of it.

Does this happen often enought to warrant that feature?
I feel like it does more harm than good, especially if there is no Error Message to tell why it is not posting.

I say: Turn it off.
There is always the option of editing a post, or sending a second one.

Feature should be deactivated now. But since this is activated/deactivated on a per forum basis, please let me know if I forgot to deactivate it somewhere.
