In the Flash Fiction tournament authors will write a piece of flash fiction (250 to 1000 words) for each of their match-ups. Each round will have a new theme. The winner of a match-up advances to the next round until the final match-up determines the winner of the contest. The contestants will publish their stories under randomly assigned pen names to guarantee anonymity until the end of the contest or when a contestant is eliminated. Pen names will be suggested by each contestant.
Flash of Desire Rules
- Language: English
- Length: 250 to 1000 words
- Voting: The winner of each match-up will be determined by the reputation gained during the voting period. Voting for your own story is forbidden since it is impossible to rate your own posts under normal circumstances.
- Schedule: Each round is exactly one week long, 4 days of writing followed by 3 days of voting. The first round starts on Sunday July 5 2026.
- Anonymity: All stories will be published under randomly assigned pen names until the end of the tournament.
- Every contestant can suggest a pen name upon signing up for the tournament. The name they suggest will be assigned to some other contestant at random.
- In case a contestant does not suggest a pen name for their competitors, I will make up one myself.
- During the tournament, reputation gained by entries will be added to an anonymous account. Once the tournament is over, that reputation will be transferred to the real account.
- Rewards:
- Special title for the winner of the contest (except for mods and admins)
- Each won duel will get the winner 5 reputation points. Winning the entire contest will yield another 10 reputation points. The runner-up gets 5. These points will also be added to the participants' season scores that determine the season champion at the end of the season in December.
Schedule:
- July 4th: Deadline for contestants to sign up
- July 5th: Contestants get their pen names and are randomly matched for the first round.
- July 5 to July 11: Elimination Round (Round rules will depend on how many people sign up. Rules will be announced on the 4th or 5th.) Theme: Lucky Charm
- July 12 to July 18: Quarterfinal - Theme: When it rains, it pours
- July 19 to July 25: Semi-Final - Theme: Odd One Out
- July 26 to August 1: Final - Theme: Every Man For Himself
Stories will be posted in a separate board that will be visible for contestants only. Once the voting period begins, all stories will be moved to the Public Stories board at the same time and will be pinned to the top of the board.
