Are birthdays overrated when you become an adult?

The Dining Hall is the perfect place to take a break from your studies. Meet your fellow students or colleagues to chat about anything else the world has to offer. For the most part, any interest you want to share is fair game—just steer clear of contemporary politics.

Are birthdays overrated when you become an adult?

I'm 39 and feel like birthdays are just meh now. Sure I like cake, but I don't feel like doing parties or even telling people it's my birthday anymore.

My birthday doesn't bring me any great joy either.

Don't get me wrong, at that moment, I'm glad I lived another year, but that's the extent of it.

If I tried hard, I might be able to care less about my birthday, but my wife likes them. So I guess I like them too. At least I get cool stuff, so that's a plus. But it feels like getting cool stuff out of the blue, because there's nothing special going on there.
