Sculpture

The Dining Hall is the perfect place to take a break from your studies. Meet your fellow students or colleagues to chat about anything else the world has to offer. For the most part, any interest you want to share is fair game—just steer clear of contemporary politics.

The sexiest of all the arts, or what? :peach:

All right, where was I? Falling in love (or lust) with a statue was described back in Ancient Greece, and that's apart from the Pygmalion myth with its bringing-to-life theme. I guess the modern sex doll industry is the lineal descendant, but let's talk about art!

I'm fascinated by the distinctive development of sculpture -- almost every culture around the world has given us something unique and unmistakable. As for me, when I'm writing Roman stories, I usually consider statuary in the scene, even if it remains not described. In my 'Training Day' a mid-2nd century tepidarium gets a Venus and an Antinous. Quite reasonable, I think!

The memorable recent use of sculpture here at RavishA was in @Shocker's story with, oddly enough, the same title -- there's a Mayan stone idol that plays a much more... penetrating role in the plot.

Have you ever been directly inspired by sculptures to write a story, to create a work of art of your own? To do something else, perhaps? ;)

@lucius I would have described the relationship of Jenny and the Mayan Sculpture as intimate knowledge.
My collected stories can be found here Shocking, positively shocking
