Re: Record Chaser
finally, i’ve finished the whole story! this was such a masterful and incredibly immersive piece of writing. i really loved the way you explored your characters’ psyches. i feel like that psychological exploration is a huge part of what makes this story feel so unique.
and i have to tell you, it’s been such a long time since i’ve been this absorbed in a story. i can’t remember the last time i binged through something like this in less than 24 hours. and honestly, reading this really brought back that feeling i’ve been missing when it comes to reading. you know, there’s something so special about finding a story that makes you want to keep reading just because you’re so invested in it and where their story is going. i had such a wonderful time with this <3
thank you so much for taking the time to write this story. i’m really glad i came across it! <33

Thanks! That was exactly what originally motivated me to write the story. I thought there were too few stories that actually explored the psychology behind sexual violence. I was neverfan of rapists being depicted essentially as unfeeling psychopaths and victims shaking off the abuse fairly easily. I'm happy that came across.emma_charl wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2026 7:04 pm finally, i’ve finished the whole story! this was such a masterful and incredibly immersive piece of writing. i really loved the way you explored your characters’ psyches. i feel like that psychological exploration is a huge part of what makes this story feel so unique.
If you're not tired yet of the Record Chaser universe, you might have fun with Late Satisfaction next. Late Satisfaction tells the story of Eleanor, the girl Claire thinks of in chapter 7 of Record Chaser before she elbows Mark. It also features heavily Anthony Robertson, the Professor Claire works for, and Eugene, the guy Claire met before Mark abducted her.emma_charl wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2026 7:04 pm and i have to tell you, it’s been such a long time since i’ve been this absorbed in a story. i can’t remember the last time i binged through something like this in less than 24 hours. and honestly, reading this really brought back that feeling i’ve been missing when it comes to reading. you know, there’s something so special about finding a story that makes you want to keep reading just because you’re so invested in it and where their story is going. i had such a wonderful time with this <3
And if you still want more, you could read Divergent limit (or "Lost things Don't Return" on AO3) which is a sequel to both Record Chaser and Late Satisfaction and brings the cast of both stories together.
This forum will be closed in November. So feel free to say hello and leave kudos on AO3 instead. I always enjoy hearing from readers like yourself. That happens sadly very rarely on AO3 for original fiction.

Re: Record Chaser
Actually, now that I think about it, why is the title for Divergent Limit different on AO3?

Re: Record Chaser
And chapter 8 has been edited! The opening was substantially rewritten, a continuity error with Divergent Limit chapters 1 and 2 was fixed. And I did of course the usual things I did for the earlier chapters as well. In terms of length, the chapter hasn't changed much. It's about 30 words less, but that might mostly be due to "I will" and "was not" becoming "I'll" and "wasn't". Locally, some phrases were shortened while other passages were lengthened quite a bit.
I think the chapter should read quite a bit smoother now.
Three chapters left to go!

It's quite simple. I haven't decided the final title of the story yet and wanted to see if the other title attracts more readers. Sadly, I don't think it does. :/

I'm torn on which one I like better. On the one hand, I feel like "Divergent Limit" is snappier and easier to catch attention. But "Lost Things Don't Return" captures the sadder, more emotional feel of the fic better than the former, in my opinion.

You think so? I was wondering if it's too technical. It's a reference to a concept in the analysis of series in math. I've been wondering since the start how much the title depends on the reader being familiar with what a limit and divergence mean in math.mcpa1597 wrote: Thu Aug 27, 2026 3:36 am On the one hand, I feel like "Divergent Limit" is snappier and easier to catch attention.

Yeah, I had no idea about any of that. I just thought it sounded cool.I've been wondering since the start how much the title depends on the reader being familiar with what a limit and divergence mean in math.
Upon reflection, I'm starting to favor "Lost Things Don't Return" because I feel it's a reference to how, even though Eleanor and Claire are making steps to move on and recover from their experiences, something was taken from them that they'll never get back. Admittedly, it's an obvious conclusion to come to, but it still works.
