Chapter 21 - Stroll

Jake slowly let his hand slide back down toward the ankle boot, without taking it completely away from Claire.

This time Claire looked him directly in the eyes.
And she noticed a strange flicker there. A flicker that was not caused only by the flames of the nearby campfire.
Despite the heat, she began to shiver.

“You really are a strange man, Jake.”

“You said that earlier.”

“I meant it.”

Jake gave her a sly grin.
“And yet you’re still sitting here beside me?”

Claire fell silent and thought about it.
Where else could she have gone?
The men certainly would not have allowed her simply to get up.
But perhaps that was also because she still could not believe that this man truly posed a danger to her.

Jake leaned toward her again.
“You really have no idea, do you?”

Claire slowly shook her head.

Miriam had heard every word the two of them had exchanged.
And she had also noticed the change in the tone of Jake’s voice.
She watched the two of them thoughtfully for a moment before turning to Claire.
“Claire,” she said calmly, but with a distinctly warning undertone, “I think you’d better come over here to me.”

Jake turned toward Miriam with amusement.

“Why? We’re having a perfectly good conversation!”

Miriam did not answer.
Her gaze remained firmly fixed on him.

Blue had been following the scene as well.
With an exaggerated clearing of his throat, he spat out the chewed blade of grass, got to his feet, and walked over to Miriam.
He held out his hand to her expectantly.
“Come, Madam.”
Miriam looked up at him in surprise.
“Where?”
“We’re going for a little walk. I need to talk to you.”
Miriam hesitated.
Something in Blue’s tone made her suspicious.
But one look into his blue eyes told her that he was not really giving her a choice.

Miriam placed her right hand in Blue’s and allowed him to pull her to her feet and lead her away from the fire.

Claire and Jake watched them go.
Claire with mixed feelings.
She sensed that the situation had just become considerably worse for her.

Jake, on the other hand, grinned to himself.
He understood.
Blue would not stand in his way, at least for the moment.
And apparently he also wanted to prevent Claire’s mother from interfering any further.
That made things considerably easier for Jake.
Yes, now he was certain that he would get his way with Claire.
One way or another…

Jake waited a moment until Miriam and Blue were out of earshot.
Then he turned back to Claire.

“Well, I guess it’s just the two of us pretty much alone now.”
Jake’s brief sideways glance at Caleb and Silas showed that the two of them were not a threat, at least for the moment—for either of them…

Claire looked toward the direction in which her mother had disappeared.
“Why did he take her with him?”

“Maybe he just wanted to talk to her.”

“And why now?”

Jake shrugged.
“Maybe he noticed that the two of us have been getting along rather well by now.”

Claire looked at him for a long moment.
“I don’t believe that.”

“No?”

She shook her head.
“No.”
For the first time, there was no uncertainty in her voice.

Jake noticed it.
His smile faded until his face became an expressionless mask.

Claire moved a little farther away from him.
“I want to go to my mother.”

Jake watched her.
Then he said quietly:

“I don’t think you’d better do that.”

Chapter 22 - Miriam

Blue led Miriam far enough away from the fire that she could no longer see Claire.

Miriam was not at all comfortable with that.
She pulled her cardigan tighter around herself and began to shiver despite the mild summer night. Then she tried to look into Blue’s eyes in the darkness.
“Who are you people, anyway? It’s obvious that you want to free this Jake. And the fact that you’re doing so despite the crimes the young man is supposed to have committed leads me to believe that you’re all very closely connected.”

Blue said nothing.

Miriam continued to study him.
“I suppose Caleb is Jake’s older brother. The resemblance is striking. Silas also has one or two facial features that resemble the other two.”
She paused briefly.
“Even if his character is obviously rather simple-minded.”

A barely perceptible smile crossed Blue’s face.

Miriam noticed it.
“And he strikes me as the most dangerous of the four of you.”
She continued to look directly at Blue.

“But what about you, Blue?”

Blue remained silent for a moment.
Then he smiled.

“You ask quite a lot of questions, Madam.”

“And so far, you haven’t answered a single one.”

Blue looked at her calmly.
“Perhaps I wanted to find out what kind of woman you are first.”

Miriam shivered again.
This time, she was not sure whether it was because of the night.

Blue studied Miriam silently for several seconds.
“You observe very carefully, Madam,” he continued. His voice suddenly sounded somewhat quieter than before.

“I suppose I have to.”

“Why?”

Miriam briefly looked back toward the fire.
“Because my daughter is sitting back there with a man who is obviously not the charming fellow he pretends to be. The accusations the sheriff made against him surely aren’t without reason!”

Blue followed her gaze.

“Jake frightened you.”

“Not just me.”

“But you more than your daughter.”

Miriam turned back to him.
“You know what he intends to do.”

Blue did not answer immediately.
“I know that Jake isn’t particularly patient.”

“That wasn’t my question.”

Blue gave a faint smile.

“No. It wasn’t.”

Miriam looked steadily at him.
“Why did you bring me here?”

This time, the smile disappeared from his face.
“Because you wouldn’t have been able to do anything over there. And you’re safer here with me.”

Miriam suddenly became acutely aware that she was alone with this man.
The man with the blue eyes that could sometimes seem ice-cold.
And whose voice now carried a strange undertone.

And for the first time, she wondered whether it was really only Claire who needed protection.

Chapter 23 - Fear sets in

“Everything all right?”

Miriam forced herself to nod.
“Yes.”

Blue continued looking at her. He obviously did not believe her.

“You’ve gone pale.”

“It’s nothing.”

“Are you sure?”

Miriam nodded again, this time more firmly.

But Blue made no move to return to the fire. On the contrary.
He remained exactly where he was, close enough that Miriam suddenly became acutely aware of his presence.

She looked into his eyes again.

Image

And once more, she was faintly reminded of that situation from the past.
Not the same circumstances.
Not the same man.
But the same look.

Miriam turned her head away. Even she did not yet know exactly what these brief flashes of memory were supposed to mean.

A dry branch cracked behind her.
Miriam spun around.
No one.
Only darkness.
And somewhere beyond it, the quiet sound of the horses.

Then she heard Claire scream again.
This time, a little louder.

Miriam instinctively took a step toward the fire.
Blue stepped into her path.
“I think,” he said calmly, “you’d better stay here.”

Miriam looked at him.
She noticed that he had changed from the polite, somewhat distant “Sie” he had always used to a much more unsettling “you.”

And suddenly, she no longer knew what she should be more afraid of.

Kapitel 24 –At the campfire

Jake began sliding his hand beneath Claire’s blue dress—underneath the petticoat, the color of which he couldn't make out in the darkness. His arousal grew with every inch his fingers slid up Claire’s leg, intensifying further when he encountered something new. For Claire was wearing something else beneath the petticoat—something that felt softer, more velvety. Once again, Jake was reminded of the raid on the farm, and the rancher’s daughter. She, too, had worn a garment like that. At least at first—until he had pulled it down. And stripped off his own breeches as well—a move that had ultimately proven to be a mistake.

Jake’s thoughts were interrupted by the shrill "NO! DON'T!" that Claire suddenly cried out. That made it clear to him once and for all that words alone wouldn't get him anywhere. His grip grew harder, more demanding. Claire tried desperately to pull away from him, but Jake made sure to stop her.

"Stay put! The fun is just getting started. At least for me!"

This time Miriam was certain that Blue had heard the scream as well.
She turned around and tried to run toward the fire, hoping somehow to save Claire from Jake.
But a strong hand gripping her shoulder brought her to an abrupt stop.
Behind her came a dangerous growl.

“I told you, you’d better stay here!”

Blue spun her around until she was standing directly opposite him again.
And it was precisely that touch that triggered another memory in Miriam.

Slowly, the fog in her mind began to clear.
For now, only a little.
But this time, there was no stopping it...

At the stagecoach, Carter raised his head.
Elias had heard the screams as well. Especially Jake’s last shout.
For a moment, the two men looked at each other in silence.

“That’s it,” Elias said quietly.
Carter nodded.

“Yes.”

“Exactly what we were afraid of.”

Carter pulled at his restraints again.
“I should have done something sooner.”

Elias looked at him.

“You had no chance, Marshal. They should have dealt with Jake back in town instead of trying to escort him to Prescott so he could have a fair trial. He would have ended up on the gallows either here or there...”

Carter said nothing.

Once again, a sound came from the darkness.
This time, neither man said a word.
But they were not the only men around the campfire who were thinking about what was happening.

Silas had been watching Jake’s efforts with Claire the entire time, a faint grin on his face.
Did that young fellow, who apparently still had a lot to learn about the world, really believe he could charm and seduce Claire?
No.
Silas knew women better than Jake did.
They only understood one language: his...

But Jake apparently wasn’t a completely hopeless case after all.

Although Silas had not witnessed what must have happened between Jake and the farmer’s daughter at the farm—he himself had been busy with the maid in the kitchen—it was a shame that the gang had been interrupted at what seemed to have been the most interesting moment...

And now, as Jake continued harassing Claire, Silas’s excitement grew with every passing minute.
Because now he knew it was only a matter of time before he, too, could get up from the fire and go over to Claire.

Caleb was different.
Yes, he disapproved of the way Jake treated women.
The way he sometimes indulged his desires at their expense.
Just as he was doing with Claire now.
But on the other hand, Jake was his brother.
And Caleb told himself that perhaps Jake simply had to sow his wild oats before he would understand that women wanted to be won over, not taken by force.

Unlike Silas, who would never understand that for the rest of his life.
All the more reason for Caleb to become concerned when he saw the grin on Silas’s face as Jake loudly announced what he apparently considered his success.
At the same moment, Claire let out a heart-rending scream.

Without drawing attention to himself, Caleb pulled his revolver and began idly spinning its cylinder.

Chapter 25 – A door opens

Away from the campfire, Blue still held Miriam firmly.
His grip tightened when Jake’s voice suddenly carried through the darkness. Blue could not make out what he was saying, but the meaning was unmistakable.
And when Claire’s screams began again almost immediately afterward, Blue knew that Jake had, at least in some sense, achieved what he had wanted.
Certainly not in the way he had originally intended.
But he had achieved it.

Unlike Blue himself.
When he had pulled Miriam away from the campfire, there had been two reasons for doing so.
For one thing, he did not want Miriam to witness directly what would inevitably happen to Claire.
But there had also been a selfish reason.
The sight of Jake’s advances toward Claire had stirred something in Blue as well.
No.
Not desire for Claire. She was far too young for his taste.
But Miriam, in her rather simple yet elegant traveling dress, had appealed to him from the very first moment they had met during the stagecoach robbery.
And when the campfire had cast its shadows across her face, making her appear even more alluring, something had awakened in Blue.

The desire to kiss Miriam.
To feel her skin.
To undress her.

And in his first thoughts, she had willingly surrendered herself to him, without him ever needing to raise a hand against her.
But by now, as he had realized—not for the first time, either—he was still a hopeless romantic dreamer.
And his dream would not come true tonight, either.

Miriam, too, understood the sounds coming from the campfire.
She stiffened.
And when she felt Blue’s grip on her shoulder growing stronger, when he suddenly began pressing himself against her from behind, she realized that her fears had apparently been justified.

And then it was there again.
That scene in her mind.
Suddenly she was standing behind the counter of a general store.
In front of her stood several jars filled with sweets, their enticing aroma meant to lure children into spending their pocket money with her—the shopkeeper’s daughter.
In her mind, she heard the shop door opening.
And saw a man enter the store.
But before her thoughts could become any clearer, she was pulled back into the present.
And then she noticed something she had not noticed before.
The smell of the man behind her.

Male.
Harsh.
Along with the smell of a horse.
And there was something else in the air, both then and now:
The smell of death...

And in that moment, she remembered the gift her recently deceased husband had given her on his deathbed.
One of the weapons he had made during the final weeks before his death. One he had made specifically for his wife, Miriam.
A small Derringer pistol.
One that could easily be hidden beneath a woman’s skirt.

Or inside an ankle boot.

Chapter 26 – Defloration

Claire’s shrill cry of “No, don’t!” only aroused Jake further. Yes, he had tried long enough to win her over nicely, but it had all been in vain. At least no one present could claim later that he had simply pounced on Claire without preamble. But now, the pressure had finally become too great. Once again, he would have to take a woman by force. This time, however, it wouldn’t be just some cheap, drunken parlor whore, but an apparently refined, well-bred young lady. That only heightened the thrill for him! And who knew—perhaps Claire was even still a virgin? Jake certainly intended to find out. Right now.

Jake, who had been lying right next to Claire the whole time, sat up. Then he straddled her thighs, ensuring she wouldn’t have a chance to put up any serious resistance.
A glance into Claire’s eyes revealed the fear the young woman was now feeling. Real fear—sheer terror!

And Claire—she saw only one thing in Jake’s eyes: unbridled lust. Lust for her!
In a final act of desperation, Claire tried to roll out from under Jake. It was in vain. Even the thought of clawing at his face with her fingernails came to nothing, as Jake realized her intention in time and grabbed her wrists, pushing them above her head and pinning them firmly into the dirt with a single hand—while his free hand began to press against her breasts, still covered by her traveling dress.

No man had ever touched Claire like this before—let alone made any kind of sexual advance or harassed her. Her parents had always seemed to be constantly hovering nearby, shielding her from the crude remarks of young men who loved to watch her walk by. But now her father—the Peacemaker—had been dead for weeks. And her mother was gone, having moved away from this strange place called Blue. For whatever reason...

And Jake didn't stop at just groping and fondling Claire’s breasts through her clothes. When he sensed her resistance slowly but surely beginning to wane, he released her wrists—he was going to need his hands for something else now.

He grabbed Claire’s clothing with both hands, tugging at it until the blue fabric began to tear. More and more skin was revealed. The glimpse of Claire’s snow-white breasts aroused him so intensely that he tore off the rest of her top. He drew the sharp knife from his belt and sliced through the fabric sash that had once held her dress together at her slender waist. Then, he simply slashed Claire’s white, laced bodice—which shaped her waist and breasts—into shreds. Immediately, he pressed his lips hard against her exposed nipples—first one, then the other. He felt them harden and rise involuntarily, allowing him to suckle at them like a small baby—though he was far from gentle, unlike an infant.
On the contrary: when he finally bit down on one of the nipples so hard that a few drops of blood welled up, Claire began to snap out of her shock and scream. She screamed louder than she ever had in her life.

But even that didn't seem to impress Jake. On the contrary: in a flash, he slid a little lower between Claire’s legs, allowing him to push her dress up past her hips. Then he tore down the delicate, soft panties that still stood between him and his ultimate goal. He stood up briefly to lower his own trousers, then settled himself over Claire.

He had actually intended to play with Claire a little longer—to savor and enjoy her inexperience and innocence. But the sight of her—so defenseless, with her untouched, delicate white skin—aroused him more than anything ever had before. So he took his hard cock in his hand and positioned it at the entrance to Claire’s innocent vagina, which was crowned by a soft fringe of blonde hair. He eased the tip of his glans just a little way inside—and then he thrust.

Two cries rang out simultaneously. Each in its own way.

Chapter 27 - The Derinnger

Blue had slowly approached Miriam from behind. He had heard the screams as well and knew what was happening.

He was just about to take Miriam by the shoulders and pull her toward him when she suddenly bent forward.
Slowly and almost inconspicuously.
Until her right hand reached the ankle boot at her foot and suddenly pulled a small Derringer pistol from it.
Then she turned around and aimed the muzzle directly at Blue’s chest.
“Don’t take another step, or else...!”

Image

There was no mistaking from Miriam’s silence that she would not hesitate to pull the trigger.
To stop Blue.

For a brief moment, Blue’s eyes widened.
He really had not expected this.
The pretty lady certainly knew how to surprise a man!
But Blue had already survived situations far more dangerous than this.
And so he slowly raised both hands to chest height, showing Miriam that he understood exactly what the situation was.
Although this had long since ceased to be a game.

“Take off your gun belt!” Miriam demanded, her voice icy cold.
Yes, she thought, she was finally in a situation where she had everything under control.
And she would make damn sure she did not lose that advantage.

At the same time, she desperately wanted to go to her daughter’s aid.
Even though it was apparently already too late for that.

“Easy, Lady. I’ll do whatever you want.”
Slowly, Blue opened the buckle of the belt carrying his two revolvers.

“And now drop it!”
Miriam’s voice remained completely controlled as she watched Blue obey her command.
But then...

Blue suddenly hurled his heavy gun belt at her.
And when Miriam instinctively tried to dodge it, he tore the little Derringer from her hands.

“So quickly, the tables can turn!”
Blue’s voice had become cold as he pointed Miriam’s own weapon directly at her.

“Cute little toy. Who were you planning to shoot with it? A fly?”

Chapter 28 – At the goal?

By the campfire, Jake had meanwhile begun thrusting his hard cock deeper and deeper into Claire—until he met with slight resistance.

"I knew it!" Jake rejoiced inwardly. Claire was actually going to be the first virgin he’d ever had sex with. And not just consensual sex, either—sex against her will!

"So, you really are still a virgin? It was high time you ran into someone like me—someone who knows how to appreciate that," Jake whispered into Claire’s ear. He spoke softly, yet loud enough for Caleb and Silas to hear.

Tears streamed from Claire’s eyes. It wasn't so much the pain—that had become bearable after the initial shock—but the prospect of losing her most guarded secret (which she had intended to save for a future husband) to this thug in a matter of minutes caused her to finally lose the last shred of her composure. Her sobs grew louder as Jake increased the pressure of his cock against her innermost depths.

This time, Silas didn't remain seated. He slowly rose and stood beside the couple on the ground, watching to see what Jake would do next.

Silas’s presence didn't seem to bother Jake; the prospect of making such a priceless conquest made him forget everything else around him. He had eyes and hands only for Claire’s breasts—and for the sensation of his cock buried deep inside her.

Yes, Claire tried once more to press her thighs together. But it was all in vain. She couldn't manage to force Jake out.
And then he thrust—not gently or slowly, but hard and brutally.
Claire felt something tear inside her. She felt blood flowing, for suddenly his cock slid into her almost effortlessly.

And then Jake began to fuck her…

Chapter 29 - Abused

Miriam and Blue could hear the screams drifting over from the campfire—screams Miriam was now powerless to stop. For she was the one staring into the muzzle of her own gun.

"You had your chance too, Miriam. But evidently, you thought that as the widow of a gunsmith and arms dealer, you stood a chance against me.
Well, as you can see, your calculation didn't pay off. But I’m giving you one last opportunity: either you undress willingly and sleep with me, or you’ll suffer the same fate as your daughter. And after that, I can’t guarantee a thing...!"

Blue let that last sentence hang in the air. It made it crystal clear to Miriam what awaited her if she continued to defy him.

"Pull down the bodice of your dress!"

Blue’s command was unmistakable. Realizing just how hopeless their situation had become, Miriam abandoned the last of her resistance. Now, more than just rape was at stake; it was a matter of life and death—her beloved daughter’s life and her own.

Slowly, Miriam undid the top buttons and let her dress slide down over her shoulders, revealing her undergarments. They were similar to the lingerie she had bought for Claire at a women’s clothing store before the trip—lingerie that had stirred a pleasant sensation in her belly when she tried it on, a warmth she hadn't felt since the death of her beloved husband.

Meanwhile, Silas had added more wood to the campfire. Not because he was cold—quite the opposite; he was burning with excitement and desire, a fact made obvious by a distinct bulge in his trousers.

"Yeah, fuck her hard, Jake. The girl needs it right now. And you obviously need it even more!" Silas’s laughter sounded malicious and cruel—exactly how Claire had sized him up earlier.

And it didn’t stop at just the laughter. By now, Jake had driven himself deep inside her—all the way in. He was fucking her as if it were the last fuck of his life. It didn’t take long for Claire to feel something else mingling with the blood that had flowed when her hymen tore: Jake’s thick, clumpy semen mixing with the fluids her body had produced despite the violent violation.
After Jake had successfully ejaculated deep inside Claire, he remained lying heavily on top of her for a moment to catch his breath.

But Silas—who had meanwhile dropped his own trousers—didn’t give him that chance.

Chapter 30 - Exploration

Meanwhile, another scene was playing out close by—a scene between Miriam and Blue. It was not as violent as the one at the campfire, yet it was clearly against Miriam’s will.
After she had undone the top buttons of her traveling dress and let it slip down from her shoulders to her waist, Blue could no longer restrain himself. With a quiet smile, he tucked the derringer into his belt.

"A woman's toy!" he thought scornfully. Then he stepped right up to Miriam. And there it was again—that scent Miriam couldn't quite place. Yes, she recognized the blend: the sharp, masculine scent of a stranger mingled with the smell of sweat—the smell of her own fearful sweat. Yet the memory remained trapped in her mind; Miriam wondered if it might not be better for it to stay there forever.

By now, Blue’s hands were exploring her upper body. She felt those large hands against the undergarment that still covered her breasts—large hands, yet well-groomed, as she had noticed earlier when they were all sitting together, seemingly at peace, around the campfire.

Like her daughter, she wore a white bra beneath her dress—one that (for the moment) concealed her breasts—along with a laced bodice. She had chosen the bodice for the journey out of a certain vanity; Miriam knew she was no longer young, and the garment allowed her to effectively hide the few signs of aging that had appeared there over the years.

Image

Her late husband had always liked those curves—or so she recalled. But that was the past. The here and now looked different—very different!

By now, Blue had reached for the laces at the back of her bodice and was trying to undo them. Unlike Jake with Claire earlier, however, he didn't use force; he worked with a certain dexterity—something Miriam had to acknowledge with appreciation. And something else surprised her: her own body was beginning to betray her. For as Blue loosened the bodice enough to pull it down and expose—then touch—her breasts, a sudden, searing heat flooded her entire body. Her face seemed to glow. Fortunately for her, Blue couldn't see that in the darkness.

Then his lips began to caress her proudly erect nipples. The tender tip of his tongue circled them—slowly, with great sensitivity. And yes, Miriam had to admit she was becoming more aroused by the minute.

At another time, in another place? Who knows what might have come of an encounter with this strange stranger. But not now. Miriam stiffened under Blue’s touch. He didn't fail to notice. But by then, he, too, had reached a point of no return.

"Lie down in the grass. And relax." That was his only comment on the situation.
