This was FANTASTIC for a flash piece! It felt so put together for just 1,000 words! I liked the narrator, her little jabs at other ethnicities and so forth really felt accurate for someone who’d been indoctrinated by Roman values.

The cherry picking trope was nice, the: one two three four, to show the way her attention was always divided between her duty and her captivation

This line made me laugh:

‘Quit dawdling and get me another basket, you snail!’

not Calliope calling her a snail

I enjoyed the concept of voyeurism being used instead of having the narrator endure the rape (as what I thought would happen when the story began). And yet again, there was that fun literary device of the cherries one; two; three; four, to showcase her divided attention.

Yeah, Calliope just watching was subverting the expectations a little, plus there's a certain dearth of voyeurism-centred stories here.
