It took me until the third familiar name before I was sure that the names had been taken from Dumas. At that point, it could no longer be a coincidence.Shocker wrote: Tue Jun 30, 2026 10:08 pm Glad to see another fan of the works of Alexandre Dumas. I see your Comte de Monte Cristo. Saint-Meran is such a pretty name.

Re: Scandalous - June/July Contest
You should definitely fix that. I still vividly remember absolutely tearing through The Count of Monte Cristo as a teenager. It's one of those books that's almost unfair—you only get to read it for the first time once.AdmiralPiet wrote: Tue Jun 30, 2026 9:33 pm
I shamelessly stole the antagonists names, or rather titles from "The Count of Monte Cristo" (without having read it)
As for your story, I'm really enjoying the historical setting. It has so much potential: an almost all-powerful ruler, a group of influential women around him, all of them with so much at stake. Right now, it feels like one long teaser in the best possible way—it keeps building the anticipation and really makes me want to dive into the main story.

I guess I over-focused on appearances. I only mentioned obsession once, but you are right: It is there, even though its not explicitly mentioned.Claire wrote: Thu Jul 02, 2026 9:43 pmI mean... you made clear that they had tried several schemes in the past that didnt work out well. To take such a risk with yet another plan is definitely obsessive. If they weren't obsessed, the story wouldn't happen. Compare that to the oiled prompt. It's no more important for the story than the fact that Juliette had red hair. It's a minor detail. You leave that out and nothing fundamentally changes. To me, that's an important distinction.

IndeedThe prompts were difficult this time.
Ohhh, that is goodGreen’s Dictionary of Slang has an isolated mention of 'sexy' pussy in 1699, but yah, for the 18th century I'd go with 'cunny' or 'twat'.
Once the contest is done I'll change that. Most likely to "twat".
I remembered a comic I read where the author used "cleft". That can also work in the right sentence.
