Rupert is on a blind date, and so his expectations on what might of might not happen on said first date are not overly high.

As for the whiskey, a lady he has never met before is going to meet him drinking already hard liquor before her arrival. This can be the sign of danger, hence his expectations of this fouling up his chances even more. His hopes on getting laid are extremely slim anyhow.
