Question about rape scenes in mainstream movies

Post by LaLia »

Everyone knows them...the many rape scenes in mainstream films. They occur quite often, especially in horror films.

I'd be interested to hear your favorites or the scenes that have stuck in your mind the most. Which were the best? Or the most shocking? Which were arousing? Tell us about them.

I can't say that I have a top 5 list of rape scenes in mainstream media in my mind, but there is one that stuck with me.

The movie The Last Duel retells different scenes in the story from different perspectives. One of these scenes is a rape scene that is told from both the rapist's and the victim's perspective. I think the movie intended to make it look like in one telling of the story, this was consensual and in the other it was not. But the main difference was that the victim objected a little less verbally and resisted less physically in the rapist's telling of the scene. I remember thinking that the two perspectives don't paint fundamentally different pictures. Since the movie is from 2021, I wonder whether the director really wanted to convey the idea "If the victim doesn't fight the attacker tooth and nail it's not rape". But that might also be a remnnt of the book that this is based on which is a little older, from 2004. Either way, I remember how odd that scene was to me. The movie was trying to sell me on this idea that telling the same events from different perspectives would make me question what really happened. But I could only think: Those differences don't really change how I judge the characters and the events that transpired. Those perspective shifts ended up being a gimmick with little payoff in my opinion.

I really have to watch that film again because it sounds kind of interesting...

Which ones come to mind? The scene from Irreversibel is perhaps the most famous one there is, and of course the various scenes from the various "I Spit on Your Grave" movies. The most intense are probably the scenes from "A Serbian Film."

Actually, three scenes are burned into my mind:

1. A remake of "The Last House on the Left" and the rape in the forest.
2. THE GIRL WITH THE GIRL DREAM with Lisbeth Salander and her perverted guardian.
3. The scene from "Locked Up - Jailbait 2" where the inmate is raped by the prison guards.

Were it movies like this that made you realize you are into rape fantasy? I could see scenes like this being an awakening moment for some people.

To a certain extent, definitely. The big difference to porn is that the acting is significantly better, much is left to the imagination, and there's a story behind the scenes. Although I find it easy to get more out of a film without any rape element. You can see this quite clearly in the example of the Cobra 11 story.

The rape scene from "Because of the Cats" immediately comes to my mind. One of my favorite scenes, one that I watch often.
Without slipping into pornography, it's just the right film setting to stimulate the imagination.

"Death Wish 2".
The scene in which the female black housekeeper is attacked in the title character's apartment. While waiting for Charles Bronson, the perpetrators pass the time by raping the victim in various ways.

A few of my faves include:

Sudden Death (1985) A woman is raped in the backseat of a taxi.
Rolling Vengeance (1987) The protagonist's girlfriend (Lisa Howard) is raped by 2 lowlife rednecks.
The Hills Have Eyes 1 & 2 (the Wes Craven re-makes) (2006 & 2007)
Mad Max 2: Road Warrior (1983)
A newer one is the rape scene in Landmine Goes Click (2015)

The Landmine goes click is a wild ride all together, perhaps to harsh at the end, but up to and including the rape it’s psychologically excellent.
My collected stories can be found here Shocking, positively shocking
